Martha, daughter of Jonathan Norton and Mary Ann Chaplin, was born 20 April 1757 and baptized in St. Helena's Church, Province of South Carolina on 30 May 1757.[1]
She married first to ? Scott, a wealthy plantation owner, by whom she had no children. [2]
On 9 January 1787 she married James Pope, son of James and Susanna Pope.[3][4][5] They had children James,[6]Susanna,[7] and William.[8]
