Biography
Catherine Mary (Katie) Dowling was born in 1862 in Westmeath. She came to work as a servant in the Glenny eatate in Saval, Newry Co. Down where she met Peter Downey. She married Peter Downey on 16 April 1884 according to Newry Catholic parish records and the witnesses were Lawrence Downey and Mary Corr. They lived in a house on the Glenny estate and had 3 children, Mary (Minnie), Abigail Josephine (Josie) and Daniel who died at the age of nine. She is recorded in the Census of Ireland in 1911 as living in Saval.
