John Hudson Nunn was born on April 4, 1823 in Dallinghoo, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom, son of Robert Nunn (1788–1872) and Mary Kitson (1795–1840).

John immigrated from England, arriving in South Australia, Australia. on 17 Apr 1840. aged 16. His occupation was listed as 'sawyer', and he travelled with his sister Harriet.[1]

John and Harriet were sick on the voyage out and were off-loaded in Adelaide to recover before completing the trip to Tasmania

John (22) married Catherine Crawley (17) (born in 1827 in Dublin, Ireland) on September 8, 1845 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. [2]
