Biography

Elizabeth Nurse was probably born about 1656 at Salem, Massachusetts. ^{[citation needed]}. Her parents were Francis Nurse and Rebecca Towne. (Note - Birth year was entered as 1665, which is questionable if she married 1678.

She married William Russel, son of William and Elizabeth Russell, of Salem Village on August 25, 1678 in Salem, Massachusetts ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]} (October 25, 1678). ^{[5] [6]}

William Russell was a fisherman employed on Salem fishing vessels working the Grand Bank. They lived first at Salem, moving to Reading in 1685, and returning to Salem in 1696-16997. ^[7]

William died December 22 1733, his wife Elizabeth survived him. ^[7]

His last will, written dated January 11, 1731/1732, was accepted by the Court on December 24, 1733 with his sons Benjamin and Ebenezer as executors. ^[7] In his will he left bequests to: ^[8]

• the five children of my son William, deceased, 12d each
• the four children of my son Jonathan, deceased, 12d each
• son Benjamin Russell
• son Ebenezer Russell
• beloved wife Elizabeth ^[8]

On February 28, 1733/1734, widow Elizabeth Russell entered into an agreement with her son Benjamin Russell, and daughter-in-law, Hannah, widow of Jonathan Russell deceased, granting them her one thirds dower in exchange for yearly provisions and maintenance. ^[8]
