Biography

Hubert Clement O'Connor was born in 1901, in Bairnsdale, Victoria[1].

He passed away in 1966 at 24 Solway St, Ashburton

Buried Lawn Cemetery Burwood Vic.

Electoral roll 1925 to 1934, Woolfield, Corfield, Winton, Qld. a large sheep property, where he was book keeper and general worker, he arrived by ship in Townsville in 1922, he made a few trips back to Victoria including the wedding of his sister Georgina to Llewellyn Mostyn Paterson in Feb 1924 and most likely also for the wedding of his sister Rose to Bernard E Oddie in May 1927, he probably was in Qld for about 10 years overall, and was certainly on the Victorian electoral roll by 1934. Electoral Roll 1934 and 1935, 23 Glen Iris Rd, Camberwell, Victoria, Australia. bookkeeper (with Marie O'Connor his sister and ECMA O'Connor his mother) 1937 104 Toorak Rd Camberwell, (with Marie O'Connor his sister and ECMA O'Connor his mother). Hubert married in 1940 and moved to Ashburton (initially it was in the East Malvern Postal District SE 5) 1943 Winton Rd - driver this address later known as 24 Solway St, Ashburton, Victoria, Australia. Hubert had been working for "Vacuum Oil Company" as a tanker driver from mid 1930s and in 1946 was made an auditor of the company agencies this took him all over Victoria and Southern NSW. together with two trips to Tasmania, where on the second trip he caught pneumonia and Mobil flew Dorothea and my sister Ann to Tasmania until he was better that was 1958, after this time Hubert was in charge of the printing office, and they moved from the Melbourne Harbour Trust Building to 2 City Road South Melbourne.
