Biography
"The O'Neils arrived in south Texas after the Irish potato famine, Vera's dad, Thomas O'Neil, was quite a character. He died in Port Lavaca when Vera was an infant. He was actually shot in the street. Wild times in Texas. I've gone thru court records on my many trips to south Texas, and apparently he ran several illegal gambling enterprises. The O'Neils were wealthy ranchers as they rec'd land grants in Texas. "
