Biography

Mae was the fifth of seven children in the family of William and Elizabeth Clark O'Neill. Born in month of May,[1] she seems to have been called by her middle name, as were other members of the family. She grew up and attended school in the village of Elmira, Ontario.[2][3]

She was working as a stenographer at the time she married Gordon Dalziel,[4] Gordon died in 1942. She was living in Toronto in 1965.[5]

Mae died at age 97 and is buried with her husband in Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery, Toronto.[6]

Research Notes

  • Elizabeth Jane Sullivan is buried with appears to be her parents, Gordon and Mae Elizabeth Dalziel, identified on their gravestone. Her dates are May 27, 1929 to Jan 20, 2011.[7]
  • Elizabeth and Jane Dalziel arrived at the port of New York in 1959 on the Queen Elizabeth in transit from Southhampton, England to Canada.[8]
  • A son Gordon, living in Toronto, is identified as Mae's contact on the record of her arrival in New York in 1943.[9]
  • Mae was identified on and signed her marriage as Mary Elizabeth.[10]
  • A family tree on Ancestry.com shows Mae and Gordon with five children, including Jane, Gordon and Alix, and two listed as private.
