Biography

Born: Samuel Oakes was born in 1711.

Married: Samuel Oakes married Elizabeth Flower in 1733 at Chester County, Province of Pennsylvania. [1]

Land Ownership: By Warrant dated November 16, 1737, the Proprietors of Pennsylvania granted Samuel Oakes title to 200 acres of land in the Township of Whiteland, County of Chester, Province of Pennsylvania. [2]

Chester County Tax Records: Samuel appears on the Chester County Tax Rolls in 1732, Freeman, Goshen Township; 1739, Whiteland Township. Landower;1749/50, Goshen Township; 1753, Goshen Township; 1763, Goshen Township; and 1764, Goshen Township.[3][4] He received tax discounts (poor) in 1768, 1771, 1773.[5][6]

Research Notes

A Pennsylvania Warrant dated July 25, 1775 issued John, Samuel and Flower Oakes suggests that Samuel may have had a son named John.[7]
