Elizabeth Boylston (Brooks) was born about 1626. She died in 1686 in Malden, Middlesex,Ma.
The Thomas Oakes who immigrated to Cambridge, MA, in the 1600's came with his elder brother, Edward. Edward's son, Urian, also came with them. Urian was a graduate in one of the first classes of Harvard College and became pastor of the First Church of Cambridge in 1671. He subsequently became President of Harvard and died in that office in 1681, being buried in the Old Burying Ground in Harvard Square, Cambridge. Thomas, his father's younger brother, owned a farm just on the west side of the current campus, and later moved further out to hold a farm called "Shawshine" or "Shawsheen" near Spy Pond in current Medford, MA. He married Elizabeth Boylston (Brooks). I have been unable to clear up whether Boylston or Brooks was her original surname. Many people were named Boylston in honor of Dr. Boylston who advocated vaccination against smallpox, at the risk of his life, and ultimately saved many lives by so doing.[1]
His will is dated 12 September 1758 and recorded on 28 of the 10th month 1658. He mentions his wife Elizabeth, and his children (but not by name). His inventory was taken in Cambridge on 24 of the 10th month 1658.[2]
