Mary Elizabeth Oakley's father Henry Oakley was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England according to the 1881 and 1891 census records. Her mother was Elizabeth Gardner daughter of Thomas Gardner. From what I can tell Thomas Gardner was born in Wotton Under Edge, Gloucestershire, England (1851 and 1861 census) Henry Oakley was living with John Hemming in 1881 which is interesting because John Hamming was a witness to the marriage of Elizabeth Gardner's brother, Thomas James Gardner. Not sure how he is connected to the family. Thomas Gardner's wife was Mary Ann James daughter of Thomas James. Thomas was the son of Charles Gardner. As a side note, Thomas Gardner was a blacksmith which makes him easier to trace.
