Abel Oaks was born on 10 Apr 1771[1] in Harvard, Worcester, Massachusetts Bay, son of Capt. Jonathan Oaks Sr. (1717 - 1784) and Abigail Whitney (Rand) Oaks (1736 - ~1813).
Abel married Betsey Hamlin Their son was Gardiner Ebenezer Oakes (1808 - 1882).
Abel married Betsey Hamlin on 23 Nov 1792 in Canaan, ME. Their children were:
- James Oakes (1800 - 1877)
- Ebenezer Gardner Oakes (1808 - 1882)
- Lavina (Oak) Saunders (1812 - 1873).
Abel died on 21 Dec 1856 [2]in Sangerville, Piscataquis, Maine, USA aged 85.

Oakes-28 and Oaks-53 appear to represent the same person because: These are duplicates of the same person. Abigail is the only possible mother, since Sarah Wheeler Oaks (Wheeler-1335) died before Abel Oakes/Oaks was born. Oaks was spelled various ways (Oaks, Oakes, Oak) depending on the public records.
