The 1850 census shows John, and his sister, Jane, living with the Morton family.[4] The same page has an Oaks family living nearby.
The 1860 census shows John, alone, living with the Eshbaugh family, occupation - farmer.[5] I believe in this same household, Jane Eshbaugh, is his sister. Same birth year. A Peter Oaks is on the same sheet, living in a home with multiple surnames. In the 1850 census, there was a Peter living with the Samuel Oaks household, also born in 1833, like John. Twins? Cousins? The Morton household from the 1850 census can also been seen on the bottom of this same sheet.
One source shows William's mother's name as Sarah[6], and another says mother "Mary Jane".[7] I have concluded this is the same person, though most of her records say Sarah, so I think Mary Jane is a nickname. They also named one of their daughters Mary Jane.

Personal family information both written and from family Bibles gathered over several years of travel and library research. Original edition The Berkey Book and also 2nd edition which has many Berkeys that I personally researched as well as Line 26 which is started with Orange Grove Berkey. This is as close as our branch comes but in Line 3 appears his younger sister, Catherine Winchester Berkey who married Joseph Hochstetler who is DJH-4263. This was actually a mistake on the part of the informant named Wade Miller whose mother was a Berkey and since Catherine was in the household of Jacob Berkey he thought she was his daughter but she was not. Many of my relatives are in Descendants of Jacob Hochstetler first published in 1912 by Rev. Harvey Hostetler, D.D. long before personal computers.
