Samuel was born on 13 August 1841[1] & baptised 12 September 1841, Leeds, St. Peter the son of Stephen Oates & Elizabeth. [2]
With siblings & parents in 1851, living in Lowerhead Row, Leeds Yorkshire. [3]
The marriage of Samuel Charles Oates (bach-saddler) & Harriet Hargreaves (spnr) was conducted after Banns on 28 April 1864, Leeds, St. Peter, Yorkshire. Father of bride & groom noted as Henry Hargreaves (gardener) & Stephen Oates (saddler) [4] [5]
Living in Lowerhead Row, Leeds in 1871 with wife Harriet & son John. He worked as a saddler. [6]
The marriage by licence of Samuel Charles Oates (widr. - saddler) [of Leeds] & Sarah Herd (spnr.) [of Thorpe] was conducted on 27 May 1873, Burnsall, St. Wilfred, Yorkshire. [7] [8]
In 1881 with wife Sarah & children, the family was living in Lowerhead Row, Leeds. He worked as a saddler employing a man & boy. [9]
