Sidney John Oates was born on January 31, 1887 in Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. His parents were John Oates and Clara Keeling. He was christened on 23 Feb 1887 at their parish in Pitsmoor, York, England. ^[1]

In 1891, when Sidney was 4 years old, he was recorded during the England census living with his parents and 2 siblings at their home on Canada Street in Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire, Yorkshire (West Riding), England. His father was a Telegraph Clerk. ^[2]

In 1901 he was 14 years old and employed as a Van Lad for GNR. He was living at home with his parents and 4 siblings at their home in Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. ^[3]

He married Marie Winifred Coldwell on February 05, 1910 at St. Wilfrids Catholic Church, Shoreham Street, Sheffield. ^[4] Together they had 2 children:

Research Notes

It's unclear when Sidney died. He was living in Saskatchewan in 1913 with his wife and children. In 1926 his wife is still listed as married, however he wasn't living with them. Death records were not found on Ancestry or Familysearch
