•Name: Sarah Odell
•Birth: 10 Apr 1774 in [Laurens Co.] South Carolina
•Death: 15 Sep 1853
•Note:
On 29 December 1794, Sarah's mother [Nellie Hendrix aka Hendricks] deeded them 66 acres of land which was situated in both Laurens County and Newberry County, South Carolina.
By 1806, however, they appear to have moved to the Union District of South Carolina. According to a deed dated 19 July 1806, Joel, formerly of Laurens County, sold 116 acres of land across the Enoree River to Mr. Bernard Glenn.
Joel and Sarah later moved to the Pendleton District of South Carolina, where they purchased 300 acres of land on Indian Creek from a Mr. James Osburn in 1817.
Joel subsequently died in the Pendleton District of South Carolina on 31 July 1821. Sarah, on the other hand, survived Joel by just over twenty-two years, passing away on 15 September 1853. [sic - new evidence indicates that Sarah died at her daughter's home in Fayette, Alabama, June 26, 1856.][2][3]
↑ NOTE by Chet Snow, Feb. 21, 2014: A majority of sources say Sarah moved to Fayette Co., Alabama and died there on June 26, 1856. A Wilson family genealogy reveals that Joel and Sarah's daughter Elizabeth (b. Oct. 26, 1805) had moved to Fayette after marrying James A. Wilson in 1825. This strongly supports that Sarah Whitten died in 1856 in Fayette, Alabama, and that she died at her daughter's home, a normal outcome for a widow of that time and place.
