Biography

William was a son of James and Elizabeth Odom of Marlboro County, SC. In A History of Marlboro County it was said that he married Drucilla Moore and moved to Tennessee.

A portion of his estate was left in Marlboro County South Carolina to be administered by his brother John Odom. He died intestate in Tennessee sometime in 1856. John was granted letters of administration on December 20, 1858 to settle William's estate. In the papers, it is stated that he left a widow and five children living in the state of Tennessee. The papers do not list the names of his heirs.[1]The 1840 census also enumerates 5 children with a wife in Dyer County, Tennessee.[2]

Research Notes

Druscilla Moore may actually be a second wife. There are no adult females listed in 1820/1830 census records.

He may have lived in Mississippi prior to 1832 due to unexplained dna matches that appear to match him who match to a William Odom from Mississippi.

He appears to have moved to Dyer Tn around 1832 based on the birth of a 19 year old son in 1850 census.

He may have actually been born in 1797 and not 1787 as the 1850 census suggests. The earlier records would indicate he was quite a bit younger, especially the record for 1820 as he is in the 16-26 age range. 1797 would place him after Jane in birth order.

William Odom (unknown which one) administered James' estate with Elizabeth Odom in 1815.

There is another William Odom who died in 1856 but in Cannon County, TN. Not the same family.

[old research note - retained for reference] I adopted this profile as imported with lifespan (1792-1856). I suspect conflation of two William Odoms, one the husband of Drusilla Moore of SC, the other who died in 1856 in Tennessee (See FindAGrave Memorial #5577660). DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
