"Mention of the likes of Hoger and Erpes, Wedelphus, and Meerwig (Merovech) as Thuringian rulers is sheer fantasy." (Angel, n.d.)[1]

Disputed Existence

Wedelphus and rulers before him are not historically correct.

Thuringian Rulers

See Basinas of the Thuringii (d. after 464) m. Basina (Lady) UNKNOWN (sometimes referred to as "Menia"; parents/origins UNKNOWN). No proven issue... chronology for brothers Berthar, Baderic and Hermanfrid is off... they have UNKNOWN origins. (See Cawley, 2006).[1]

Notes

For Weldelphus (fictional father of Basina, who's origins are UNKNOWN), see:

French, G.R. (1841). The ancestry of Her Majesty Queen Victoria and of His Royal Highness Prince Albert, (pp. 281). Web. http://tinyurl.com/4k32757

Gregory of Tours, "The History of the Franks"

  • should not be taken as prime authority
  • does mention Thuringians a bit.

"Letters of St. Boniface", missionary,

  • lack of info on Turingii
  • Boniface worked when the Turingii were subjugated by the Franks.

Gebser (2001)

  • appears to repeat the 19th century mistakes of Gustav Kosinna
  • subjects reader to pure fantasy.[2]

Basina and Menia were not the same person; Basina deserted Basinus for Chlothaire and Menia of the Lombards married him and had 3-4 children with him

Ok, I finally get it! This is a false pedigree that stems from the fictional Pharamond,[1] that was promoted by Pope Pious (living 1400s)... in order to give Marcomer (living 388 AD), a false heritage.

Neither of the profiles proposed for merge has the correct LNAB. Can we find a version with the correct LNAB first?

Of Thuringia-39 and Von Thuringia-12 appear to represent the same person because: Appears to be same with minor name variation. Thank you for your consideration, Renee Malloy

I find no evidence for even fanciful parentage from Chlodio.
