Biography

Thomas was born sometime before his baptism date of June 23 1624 in Derby, Derbyshire, England; the son of Thomas Oldman.[1]R. C. Anderson in his "Great Migration" does not identify the mother of Thomas Oldham.[1]

He migrated in 1635 on the Elizabeth & Ann; together with his brother John Oldham. He was aged 10 years old when he enrolled at London as a passenger for New England. He first resided at Duxbury, where the first records were written regarding him when he was about 18 years old; he was on the list of men in the Plymouth Colony who bore arms - 1643. By 1657 he had moved to Scituate where he was a Husbandman. He became a freeman also in 1657 where he took the oath of fidelity.

He was married 20 November 1656 at Scituate to Mary Wetherell, daughter of the Reverend William Wetherell.[1][2]

Children (all born and baptized at Scituate)
  1. Mary Oldham was born August 20, 1658 and baptized on October 3 the same year.
  2. Thomas Oldham was born October 30, 1660 and baptized on January 6, 1660. He married June 27, 1683 at Scituate to Mercy Sprout, daughter of Robert Sprout. They had 7 daughters.
  3. Sarah Oldham was baptized April 5, 1663 and died by 1670.
  4. Hannah Oldham was born March 7, 1664 and baptized on April 30, 1665. She married Joseph Stetson at Scituate on November 6, 1688.
  5. Grace Oldham was born February 13, 1666 and baptized April 14, 1667.
  6. Isaac Oldham was born April 9, 1669 and baptized June 20, 1669. He married Hannah Keene, daughter of Keen-129|Josiah Keene]] at Duxbury on November 21, 1695. They moved to Pembroke and had 3 children.
  7. (2nd) Sarah Oldham was born March 13, 1670 and baptized April 16, 1671. She married Lenix Beverly of Rehoboth at Scituate on January 11, 1714; she was about 44 years old at the time of her marriage.
  8. Ruth Oldham was born December 5, 1674 and baptized August 18, 1678. She married Elias Magoone at Scituate January 30, 1711.
  9. Elizabeth Oldham was born May 5, 1679 and baptized about August 18, 1678. She married Samuel Hatch, Jr. at Scituate on March 7, 1704.
  10. Lydia Oldham was born August 11, 1679 and baptized about August 3, 1679 (record is worn.) She married Samuel Gardiner at Scituate on July 2, 1707.

Thomas purchased about 20 acres of land in Scituate from Thomas Rawlins of Boston on September 29, 1662.[3]By June 22, 1695 he deeded his house, barn, lands and livestock to his son Thomas Oldham. Thomas in return was to "faithfully and decently maintain and keep and supply with all necessaries myself and my wife his mother during the term and time of our natural lives..." Thomas Jr. on May 3, 1702 gave his brother Isaac one-half of the land in Mattakeeset, township of Duborough - 50 acres.

Thomas Oldham, Sr. died intestate at Scituate on March 7, 1711.[1](Scituate Mass VR and gravesite state he died 7 March 1711.)[citation needed] His wife, Mary (Wetherell) Oldham died 12 December 1710 at Scituate[1] (her death is recorded on the same page, the line before his, in the Scituate Vitual Records).[citation needed]

On 15 April 1713, his son Thomas was granted the letter of administration of the estate. Inventory of the estate, taken May 7, 1713, totaled L8 9s. 6d., with no real estate included. There remained L5 13s. 6d. to be divided among his eight children.[4]

merge completed. Some extra children brought along in merge that need merging as well.

Hannah Oldham-1131 needs merge into Hannah Oldham-39, after the dob is analyzed and fixed, husband Joseph Stetson.

Mary Oldham-1837 needs merge into Mary Oldham-42 after dob is analyzed and fixed. husband John Bisbee Jr.
