Richard Oldham was a soldier in the Rev. Army. Enlisted in Castle [sic Caswell] county N.C. in N.C. Line Regiment, in command of Captain John Oldham, his brother, under Col. Moore, as is shown by V. Warner, Com. of Pensions, on page 485 and 486 of W. H. Millers "Histories and Genealogies". Date of enlistment 1777: service more than four years. Battle engaged in Guilford Court House. Pension applied for Aug. 14, 1832, his claim was allowed. Richard Oldham married Ann Pepper of North Carolina about 1770. He emigrated to Kentucky and settled on Kentucky River above mouth of Red River, which location was included in Estelle [sic Estill] county when it was established in 1808. He drew his pension from this home. Supplementary to paper 108622. Brothers of Richard Oldham; James, Conway, John, Moses, George, Jesse who raised the first crop of corn in Kentucky. The Pepper family were English Quakers and came to America with William Penn.
