Elizabeth Oliver was the daughter of Capt. Oliver who was Captain of an East Indiaman which was wrecked at Lynton. Captain Oliver was saved and nursed by the Cory family and eloped with Miss Cory. They came to Braunton and settled there, and when she came in to her Lynton property, she sold it and bought Fairlynch and a good deal of marsh land. They had two daughters, Hannah who married one Dyer and inherited Fairlynch, and Elizabeth who married Edward Harris and inherited the marshland.
