Biography

betty oliver was born in birmingham, england to constance and william oliver. her father worked as a draper. betty was one of 5 known children. she emigrated to new zealand (listed as a domestic) in 1923 on the ship 'tainui' out of southampton and arrived in blenheim. betty made her way to blenheim and in 1927 married noel hellyer priddle. in 1928 betty travelled back to birmingham to visit family now living at kidderminster. betty and noel settled in blenheim for some years with noel working as a hairdresser. in the early 1940's they moved north to wellington where noel continued in his trade. at a later stage noel ran a shop at the wellington botanical gardens gateway. betty priddle died in 1988 age 88 and is buried at akatarawa cemetery in the hutt valley.^[1]
