James Edward Oliver, the son of Hezekiah Oliver and Sallie Cummins, was born 4 February 1852 in Eddy Creek, Caldwell County, Kentucky.[1] He passed away 26 September 1924 in Lula, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. He is buried in the Lula Cemetery.[2]
The 1860 U.S. Federal Census of Eddyville, Lyon County, Kentucky, lists the family as Hezekiah Oliver, a farmer, age 42 from Kentucky and his wife Sarah J. age 41 from Kentucky. Their children are:
J. E. Oliver age 21 and L.B. Stephens age 17 were united in marriage 21 August 1873 at Eddyville, Lyon County, Kentucky.[4]
In the 1880 U.S. Federal Census, Shiloah, Union County, Kentucky, the family is listed as:
James E. Oliver, a farmer, age 28 born in Kentucky
Lila B. Oliver, wife, age 22 from Kentucky
Alice, daughter, age five of Kentucky
Perlia M., daughter, age two born in Kentucky. [5]
James E. Oliver age 41 and Mrs. Lucinda Kannady age 33, both of Sebastian County, Arkansas, were united in marriage 21 November 1893.[6]
The 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Cameron, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory lists the family as James E. Oliver, Farmer, age 48 born February 1852 in Kentucky and his wife Lucinda age 38 born April 1862 in Arkansas. The children are:
Briton A. age 16 born October 1883 in Arkansas
James W. age six born June 1894 in Arkansas
Virgel L. age four born August 1895 in Arkansas
Flossie R. age one born September 1898 in the Indian Territory.[7]
In the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Pocola, LeFlore County, Oklahoma, the family is shown as James E. Oliver age 59 and his wife Lucinda age 48. The children living at home are James W. age 15, Virgil L. age 13, Flossie age 11 and Urie age nine born in Oklahoma.[8]
Research Notes
The Kentucky birth record states James was born 4 February 1852; however, his tombstone reads 2 February 1852. I have chosen to use the 2 February date in the above profile so as not to generate an 'error code'. Younge-80 09:05, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
