Motivation

This motivation seeks to convince the Profile Manager that Olivier-1273 and Olivier-1302 should be merged, notwithstanding the absence of Primary Evidence. It can be removed/edited after the merge.

Situation

• Ockert Petrus Jacobus Olivier (Olivier-1273) has no future; his life seems to end after the death of his wife (Margaretha Hester Susanna Cloete) in 1845.
• There is a marriage certificate for their marriage and a Death Notice for her passing.
• It is accepted that he has a baby daughter Cornelia who marries Gerrit Johannes Cloete; there is a marriage certificate but, once again, no Death Notice.
• There is no Death Notice for OPJ Olivier (Olivier-1273); this is the key to solving the brickwall. Years of exhaustive research has failed to produce it.
• Ockert Petrus Jacobus Olivier (Olivier-1302) has no past; he has many descendants (my gran was one) but his branch is not yet connected to the main Olivier Family Tree.
• There is a marriage certificate to show that he was a widower when he married Margaretha Isabella Christiana Strydom in George in 1845. However there is no Death Notice for her?

Discussion

It is, based on the evidence of so many cases from these times, unusual for a man or woman who loses a spouse early in a marriage and while there are young children, not to marry again fairly soon.

There is nothing significant about the first marriage certificate; Ockert is 21 thus of full age while she is still a minor. They are both resident in Olifants Rivier.^[5]

In the 1845 marriage, he is a widower and they are resident in Attaquaskloof. No help here either?^[6]

All that remains is to compare his signature and here, I believe, in the absence of any other evidence, lies sufficient grounds to conclude that Olivier-1273 and Olivier-1302 are the same person.

There are sufficient grounds to complete the merge and accept Olivier-1302 into the Olivier Family Tree! ^[7]

Ockert was a Grain Farmer; he was 82 years old when he passed away at Wynandsrivier, Armoed on 18 March 1901.^[8][9]
