(Article on the Daily Reveille, Dated August 26, 1916 DEATH OF OLE OLSEN - PIONEER AUSTIN-MINER
Ole Olsen, The last survivor of the early day hard rock miners in this camp, died last Tuesday evening after a very brief illness. Rugged and strong to the last, he was doing his regular shift in the Austin-Dakota mines when bronchial trouble required him to ask for a lay off of a few days. His affliction developed rapidly in spite of medical skills. He was his same sturdy self up to two minutes before he passed away.
At his bedside were his devoted wife, a son Albert and his wife (Enetta Olsen), who arrived Tues. morning by auto from Tonopah. Mrs. Lena Christensen of Utah did not reach Austin until Wednesday afternoon. Another son, Ole Olsen Jr., could not be notified in time to be here before his father died, but came Thursday afternoon, the funeral having been postponed to await his arrival.
Besides the widow and children, the deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. Bent Hansen of Mt. Pleasant, Utah and a brother , John Henry Olsen, who resides in Idaho.
The deceased miner worked for many years in the Manhattan Mill, long since demolished and pounded rock for many a shift in the Clifton tunnel, which extends under Austin for more than a mile. Ole Olsen came to Austin in the early days across the planes with an ox team and has made this his home ever since. By his industry and strong character he made a place in the hearts of his acquaintances and will be missed by all.
His funeral was held from the Olsen home in upper Austin Thursday afternoon and had a large attendance.
