Biography

Stener was born in 1801, the son of Ole Estensen of Økensendalsøra and his wife Ane Nilsdatter of Rytter.[1] Stener leased a small croft, enclosed area of land, called Husebyløkken III, part of the farm Huseby, on September 27, 1827.

He married Gjertrud Olsdatter the following year. Stener and Gjertrud are the parents of three daughters: Kari born in 1824; Ane, in 1828; and Kristi, in 1833.[2]

In 1865, Stener and Gjertrud were living on their croft with their daughter Ane, and their granddaughter Sigrid, and her one year old baby, Ingeborg.[3][4] Sigrid's mother Kari had died in 1858 in a snow avalanche when Sigrid was 14. Sigrid may have been living with her grandparents since her mother's death, or perhaps earlier.

There were two other household units in the same building as Stener and his family in 1865, for a total of 9 people. There was a young army sergeant and his wife and child; and a single man who worked as a tailer.[5]

Steinar died at about age 71. His widow lived nine more years. Their small landholding fell in disuse after their death.[6]
