OLSON, Melvin Donald (age 73) passed away April 27, 2008 at the Pullman Regional Hospital. He was born February 10, 1935 in Colfax, WA to Rudolph and Irene Charboneau Olson.
Melvin graduated from Colfax High School in 1953 and attended Washington State University for one year before entering the U.S. Army, being stationed in France. He loved boxing in the military and after 3 years in the service came back to Colfax. Melvin then worked for the Whitman County Road Dept. He married Sharon Bafus in St. John, WA on November 28, 1958. They purchased the Hyde-Out Tavern in Colfax and owned and operated it for 40 years until selling it a few years ago. Melvin was very proud of being a basketball and football referee and coaching his Little League teams. He enjoyed collecting various collectibles, yard work and especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Sharon at their home in Colfax; his 2 sons, Shawn Olson of Colfax and Mel Olson of Cheney, WA; his brothers and sister, Ed, Bob, Dick and Ron Olson, all of Colfax, Debbie Allen of Albion, WA and Bonnie Kellogg of Portland, OR; five grandchildren; his mother, Irene Olson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials be made to the Whitman Co. Humane Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Bruning Funeral Home, Colfax, WA is caring for the family. [1]
