About Willem Orange-Nassau
Willem was intelligent, impetuous, prone to depression, and a very chivalrous gentleman. He enjoyed hunting and sports, especially tennis. He was well read in history and a very good mathematician. He loved the theatre (and French actresses) and often danced in court pageants. At the age of sixteen he had already taken the field of battle and aspired to a military reputation equal to that of his father. He could speak five or six languages fluently- there is some dispute on whether he spoke as well as understood English. He was a stylish dresser and a very attractive man. His marriage to a royal princess caused him to aspire to achieve royal status, and there is no way of knowing whether he would not have become King of the Netherlands if he had not tragically died young.
