->1902 Daughter died @ Bowral, New South Wales, Australia

Death Registration #4577/1902 of Emily OXLEY, child of William (father) and Caroline (mother), date 31May1902, registration district: Bowral, New South Wales, Australia.[10]

Obituary.
MRS. EMILY OXLEY, OF WINGECARRIBBEE.
The internment on Friday morning last of Mittagong's, most popular and highly respected, lady, Mrs. A. W. Tooth, was followed the same night by the death of Mrs. Emily Oxley—a lady occupying the position of being Bowral's oldest resident, and who during that lengthened period had not only, won, but retained the deep respect of a large circle of friends, who remember her for her many liberal acts of kindness unostentatiously, performed. Mrs. Oxley's, health had been failing for the past two years, but her last illness had only been of about two months' duration, during which, her medical advisor, Dr. Barcroft, did all in his power to afford relief, in which he was assisted by the patient care of loving relations.
She passed peacefully, away, as we have already stated, on Friday, night last.
Mrs. Oxley was a daughter of the late Mr. William, Orchard, solicitor of Hattan Garden, London, and was born at Hornsey, near London. Shortly after the death of their father, deceased and her sister Miss Honor Orchard, left England for Australia three days before the Christmas, of 1850, in the sailing vessel Mary Bannatyne, which occupied four' months in the journey, landing in Sydney, on 25th April, 1851. They at once came to Berrima to their sister, Mrs. J. Evelyn Liardet, who had reached Australia six weeks previously, and whose husband was C.P.S. at Berrima.
The deceased lady was married in 1854 to the late Mr. Henry Molesworth Oxley, of "Wingecarribbee," who, for some time represented the Camden electorate (which included the Berrima district) in the New South Wales Parliament. Mrs. Oxley, had thus been a resident of Bowral for 48 years. Her sister Honor was married in 1856 to Mr. J.B. Martin, of Camden, and has resided there ever, since—at period of 46 years. The two sisters were married at Berrima by the Rev. James Hassall, the well known Church of England clergyman, for this district at that time, and for many years after.
There were no railways in those days, consequently all travelling had to be done by road. Bowral had no existence except as a sheep walk. Some years, afterwards in, 1863, Mr. Oxley and his brother, the late. Mr J.H. Oxley, laid out the Bowral village on their estate, and, amongst those who now reside here are a few who purchased allotments at that sale. In the course of a few years the railway passed through Bowral on its way to Melbourne, laying the foundation of the prosperous township that now exists. Deceased and her husband were loyal supporters of the Church of England, and for some years divine service was conducted regularly in the hall at Wingecarribbee" by the Rev. James Hassall, of Berrima. Notwithstanding the cares of a young family, deceased found time in her early married life, to conduct a Sunday School in Bowral, and she also played the church harmonium gratuitously for a considerable time. Our readers have not forgotten Mrs. Oxley's more recent and praise-worthy efforts, that eventually led to the purchase of the beautiful organ which now adorns St. Jude's Church of England, Bowral.
The deceased lady leaves a grown up family, consisting of Miss E. C. Oxley, Mr. H. M.Oxley (solicitor, of Bowral), Mr. James O. Oxley (mining engineer of London, England), and Captain John E. Oxley (of Lord Methuen's staff, South Africa); to all whom we beg to tender our sincere sympathy.[11]
