Maltby

Jane Washburn, the sister of Samuel Washburn, married William Orcutt (Jr.), of Scituate, MA, in ca. 1691. Her daughter Joanna Orcutt married Benjamin Edson on 14 July 1715 in Bridgewater, and their son Seth Edson settled in Stafford, CT, where he had a big family. Seth's son Levi Edson married Mary (Blodgett) Washburn, widow of Jacob Washburn, on 29 Oct. 1783 in Stafford, and Levi's son Daniel Edson married Sarah/Sally Howe, daughter of Israel and Hannah Robinson (Washburn) Howe, on 21 Sept. 1820 in Stafford.

The other Orcutt families found in Stafford were probably not descendants of Jane (Washburn) Orcutt, but of William's second wife, Hannah Smith. William and Hannah's daughter Deliverance Orcutt married Capt. Joseph Washburn, son of Josiah and Mercy (Tilson) Washburn, in ca. 1728, and Deliverance's sister Martha Orcutt was the one who married Solomon Washburn (Sr.) on 13 Jan. 1831/2 in Bridgewater.[2]

According to John Maltby (http://www.maltbyfamily.net/genealogies/washburn/washburn_plymouth_10.html), Jane Washburn Orcutt bore only 2 children, Joanna and Elizabeth. All other children (Caleb, Jane, Deliverance, Martha, Moses) of William Orcutt were by 2nd wife Hannah Smith, dau of John Smith, Sr. and Jael Parker.
