Elin Eriksdatter Orm was born in about 1541 at Vatna, Stord, Hordaland, the daughter of feudal lord Erik Ormsen Orm and Kristina Torsteinsdatter Bjørke (Smør).^[1] She was married in about 1560 to Jon Gautesen Sveen, with whom she had at least seven known children.^[2] After the death of her husband in 1575,^[2] she lived for a time at Valvatna, Stord. She was living at Valvatna in 1589, but she had to move from the farm according to an agreement with Otte Tomassen Orning, who was married to Elin's brother's daughter Anna. Elin's mother, Kristina Torsteinsdatter at Vatna, had given Anna the farms Valvatna, Almås and Øvre Litlabø. By 1590, Elin was living at Kjerland, where she passed away sometime before Feb 1609. Her husband's probate was held on 16 Feb 1609,^[2] after she had died. The probate stated that they had owned eight farms and other properties in Sunnhordland, Ryfylke and Jæren.

The Stord bygdebok says she died in 1575,^[5] but other sources maintain that she lived as a widow for many years after that at Valvatna and Kjerland farms.
