Robert Dunkerson Orr was an American politician and diplomat who served as the 45th governor of Indiana from 1981 to 1989.
Robert Dunkerson Orr was born on November 17, 1917 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, Michigan, United States, son of Samuel Lowry Orr (1872–1948).
He attended Yale University and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He subsequently attended Harvard Business School.
Robert served in the US Army during World War II and earned the Legion of Merit.
Robert married Joanne Wallace (born on November 7, 1920 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States; daughter of Norman Wallace and Marjorie (Robbins) Wickman) on December 14, 1944 in Springfield, Massachusetts. They had three children.
Robert married Mary Kathryn Miller (born on December 17, 1933 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana; daughter of Theodore Hugh Miller and Clara Belle (Taylor) Miller) in 2001.
Robert died on March 10, 2004 in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, United States, aged 86. He was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.[1]
