Samuel Johnson Osborn was born May 4, 1813 in Germantown, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Ann lent Osborne. He was the brother of Joseph H. Osborn, one of the first settlers in the area. Samuel married Jane Ann Zeiss in New York in 1836 and the couple had seven children together: Elizabeth Osborn, born in 1837; Josephine Osborn, born 1839; James Z Osborn, born in 1841; Jane Ann Osborn, born in 1843; Kate Osborn, born in 1846; Cornelia Osborn, born in 1848; and Samuel J Osborn, born in 1850. All were born in Brooklyn, New York. His wife died in 1852 and his sister Elizabeth Osborn helped raise the younger children. Samuel followed his brother to Oshkosh in the 1850s and was a druggist and doctor from as early as 1857. He died in Oshkosh on January 1, 1898.
