Travis was the only son of Thomas Lester Osborn and Clara May Collett. [1]
He was educated at Hamilton High School and a member of the City Football Club.
Travis enlisted on July 27 1941 and was posted to the rank of Airman Pilot. [2] In June 1942, he was promoted to Flying Officer and served during WWII at that ranking with the RNZAF 3 Elementary Flying School. Service no 413887.
Travis died in 1943 aged just 27. On the 1st of November 1943, his plane collided in midair with another training aircraft at Harris Airfield near Harewood, Christchurch. Both planes, De Haviland Tiger Moths, contained an Instructor and an Airman. All personnel died in the crash. [3]
Travis' memorial is sited at the Remembrance Court, Burwood, Christchurch. [4]
Notably, his uncle also named Travis, served during WWI as a Private with the NZ Medical Corps, No 2 Field Ambulance and died in 1916 aged 28. Private Travis Anderson Osborn is buried at Flatiron Copse Cemetery, Mametz, France. [5]
