Biography

DOROTHY OSGOOD, b. at Lancaster, 19 Sep 1749 daughter of Aaron Osgood and Eunice White;[1] d. at Derby, VT, 1 Feb 1839 and was interred at East Main Street Cemetery in Newport;[2][3] m. at Bolton, MA, 2 Sep 1766,[4] PHINEAS WARD of uncertain birth and parentage;[5] Phineas d. at Ascot Corner, Québec, 26 Feb 1808.[6]

Dorothy and Phineas were in Henniker and went to Lower Canada during the Revolution where Phineas died. Phineas did sign the association test at Henniker in 1776.[7]

Children

Dorothy Osgood and Phineas Ward were parents of eight children, the oldest six born at Henniker, two children possibly born in Lower Canada, and the youngest child perhaps born in Vermont (census record).

  5. The Ward genealogy (p 51) reports that Phineas born 27 Apr 1744 son of Phineas and Mary is the Phineas that married Dorothy Osgood. However, the grave monument for Phineas clearly gives his years of life as 1728-1808. The grave monument also includes his son Joseph with his correct years of 1768-1851.
