DAVID OSGOOD, b. at Lancaster, 21 Apr 1734 son of David Osgood and Eunice Carter; d. at Rutland, VT, 9 Oct 1812;[1] [2] m. 1st at Lancaster, 12 Apr 1759,[3] SARAH BAILEY, b. at Lancaster, 30 Oct 1738 daughter of Samuel and Anna (Richardson) Bailey; Sarah d. at Rutland, 11 Jun 1794. David m. 3rd at Rutland, 23 Sep 1810, widow ANNA CAMPBELL.

David and Sarah Osgood resided in Lancaster until about 1778 when they relocated to Rutland, Vermont. On 26 January 1774, David Osgood, yeoman of Lancaster, with his wife Sarah, in consideration of £180, conveyed to Samuel Bayley, Jr. of Lancaster a tract of land in Lancaster with the buildings and tan yard.[4]

Daughters of the American Revolution
David Osgood is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A084597.

The family seems to have been in Lancaster for a few years after selling the interest in the tan yard as David served as captain of the 7th company of Col. Whitney’s 2nd company (Worcester County) of the Massachusetts militia. He received his commission 12 April 1780. He is likely the David Osgood of Lancaster who served as Quarter Master of Col. John Whetcomb’s regiment of Minute Men, credited with 22 days of service beginning 19 April 1775. In 1777, he was Quarter Master in Col. Josiah Whitney’s regiment with 25 days of service.[5]

The family was then in Rutland where David was reported to be a large landholder and cattle dealer. He had a farm about one-half mile from the village on the Western road.[6]

In the 1810 census, David Osgood headed a household of six persons at Rutland: one male 45 and over, one female 45 and over, one male 10 to 15, two females 10 to 15, and one female 16 to 25.[7]
