Note
Kirkwood was Captain of Company G, 11th Virginia Infantry. He later became a Colonel. He and Lucy were married in Lynchburg by Rev. John E. Edwards.
The Diuguid Funeral Home Records of Lynchburg have a wealth of information in his burial record. His late residence was 806 Court Street; and, his funeral was performed in the Court Street M. E. Church at 4:30 on 02 June 1897. He was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall and died of "paralysis of the heart". His physician was H. G. Latham. He was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery and the grave digger was named "Schultz". His funeral bill came to a total of $111.50 and was paid off in three installments.
The Diuguid Records also note that "Col. K. Otey" was charged $65.00 for burial of an un-named daughter on 13 Aug 1879, which was paid by cash on September 1st of the same year.
