Obituary of Capt. George Gaston Otey, Richmond Whig, Fri 24 Oct 1862
Tombstone in Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, Virginia
Notes
Capt. George Gaston Otey was among the first to volunteer at the beginning of the Civil War, and after serving for some time on the Peninsula, in one of the Richmond Companies, he raised an artillery company in that city, called the "Otey Battery", and was some months ago ordered to join the army of Western Virginia. The Otey Battery was known to have done gallant and effective service, and it's commander behaved with distinguished gallantry. Capt. Otey was a young man of family, beloved and respected by all.
