When Bertha W. C. Ottmers was born on 28 June 1870, in the Crabapple community in Gillespie County, Texas, United States, her father, George Heinrich Gottfried Ottmers, was 26 and her mother, Dorothea Welgehausen, was 19. Her mother died when she was only about two years old. On March 13, 1888, when she was almost 18 years old, she married William C. Schneider, in Gillespie County, Texas, United States. They were the parents of 9 sons and 5 daughters. She and her family lived on the Schneider ranch in the Cherry Spring community in western Gillespie County, Texas, United States. She died on November 4,1939, in Gillespie, Texas, United States, at the age of 69, and was buried in the Schneider family cemetery on the ranch in Cherry Spring, Gillespie County, Texas, United States.
