Forest grew up on a farm in Ray County, Missouri, became a barber as an adult and later a minister with the Assembly of God Church. He lived most of his adult life in Clay County, with some time spent in Kansas City, Jackson, Mo. He worked as a barber mostly in Excelsior Springs, Liberty, Kansas City and Missouri City and pastored churches in these areas, also. He was an avid gardener and fisherman and loved listening to baseball games on the radio.
