Malachi Owens was born Aug 1832 in Monroe County Alabama, son of [Owens-1570|Phillip Owens]] and Martha Byrd. Phillip Sr. and Martha had a minimum of 11 other children and maybe as many as 17. Both of Malachi parents were born in South Carolina and moved to Alabama about 1824. Phillip Sr. and Martha were married in 1815 in Marion County, South Carolina.
On 10 January 1853, Malachi Owens married Catherine Camelia “Amelia” Weeks in Alabama, probably in Pineapple. They had two sons while living in Alabama;
Malachi moved to Texas in 1858 with his extended family, wife, two children, a host of brothers and sisters, and his parents. Malachi would have been 26 or 27-years old at the time of the move and his wife one year younger. After moving to Texas, Malachi and Amelia had 9 more children:
Isabella born in 1858 and is thought to possibly be a twin to James
Malachi died in October of 1900 in Cushing, Nacogdoches County, Texas. He and his wife are buried in the Owens-Nelson Cemetery located in Nacogdoches County.
Research Notes
There is a “Find-A-Grave” memorial, to Malachi, its number is 14065213. There are some name spelling issues with this headstone, but remember the stone was added much later[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mal by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mal:
Malachi and his wife Catherine Camelia Amelia Weeks are buried in Owens-Nelson Cemetery, Nacogdoches County Texas. See "Find-A-Grave" Memorial No. 14065213. His parents were Phillip Owens, Sr. and Martha A. Byrd.
