Biography

Virgie was born on the 15th of April 1906 to William Harrison Owens and Maude Bishop in Mina, Arkansas. She was the fifth of ten children born to this couple with three older brothers and one older sister as well as four younger brothers and one younger sister. In addition, she had one half-brother through her father’s earlier marriage.

She lived with her family in Lick Creek until she married James Howard on the 17th of October 1924. Together they had one daughter before his death. Shortly after she married James Murray on the 25th of September 1926 in Little River. They raised her daughter, his previous five children, and their nine children together.

She passed away on the 17th of July 2001 in Star City, Arkansas.
