Biography

His sister-in-law, Melda Dial said he was an orphan.

His mother died of pneumonia when he was 12 years old. His father sent him and his two sisters to live with other family members. They all ended up in an orphanage. His two sisters Helen and Anna were adopted. Arvel Jr. was able to get out of the orphanage by going to work on the farms of some of his relatives. Later he went to work at the 3C camps out west. He finally ended up in the army until he was discharged around 1939. He became a machinist and worked in Cincinnati Ohio. He made a great life for his family. His relationship with his father was strained to say the least! They lived 9 miles apart and rarely saw each other.

I must've been 5, maybe 6 years old on that Christmas Eve I was devastated to learn there was no Santa Claus ! We Live in a two-story house and I was excited and apparently not sleeping soundly when I heard noise down the stairs in the living room. Creeping down the stairs I could make out my father making strange sounds playing with a toy electric train! He looked up and knew he was caught . Come on down he said. I Believe that toy train ment much more to my father that lt did to me. A wonderful memory for me and I hope for him..

Wayne

I just couldn't wait to tell my sister! Shame she was only a year old.
