Census records for Nancy Owens Roberts are about the only mention of her life. The 1850 U.S. Census shows Nancy and her husband Isaac in Laurens County, S.C. He is listed as 28 and she is listed as 26. They have three children: Eliza, 6; Edward, 3; and Jacob, 1.
The 1860 U.S. Census shows Nancy and Isaac living in Titus County, Texas, near Dangerfield. The children are Nancy, Jacob Patilla, Drury Sims, another daughter, Willie A, and a baby boy, John. There was also a William Owens, 27, living with them. He may have been some kin to Nancy.
In 1870, the census shows the Roberts in Van Zandt County, Texas, near Canton. There’s another child, Lucy, who was born about 1863, and Magara Lee Noles, who would later marry Drury Sims. Magara Lee was 18.
In 1880, the census shows a few changes. The Roberts are living in Kaufman County, Texas, near Combine. Lucy is the only female child at home. John R. is still at home but has married Catherine and they have a baby daughter, Letty A.
Sometime between 1880 and 1990, Isaac died, because the 1900 and 1910 Censuses show Nancy living in Erath County, Texas, with daughter Willie and husband John Damron. Both of Nancy A.’s parents were born in South Carolina. Although the census records conflict concerning Nancy’s age, she was probably about 86 in 1910. Nancy died sometime between 1910 and 1920.
