Obituary

Alice A. Hockett, 90, of Mound Valley, Kansas died on January 9, 2015 at home after battling Parkinson’s disease. Alice was born on December 22, 1924 in Granada, Co. to Henry Edgar and Mary Frances (Lucas) Owens. Ed later married Sara Effie Roberts and they raised Alice. She attended High School in Satanta, Kansas and on December 7, 1947 she married Edwin E. Hockett at Garden City, Kansas. They lived in the Satanta and Ulysses area and then moved to Coffeyville in 1948. In 1959, they moved to Mound Valley, Kansas where she worked at the Garment Factory in Cherryvale, Kansas and at the Ammunition Plant in the laundry department at Parsons, Kansas before retirement. Alice loved it when her family assembled for any occasion and never missed a beat to have plenty of food she lovingly prepared. She also loved to read, play cards, travel, make craft items, sew quilts, watch the Royals and the Chiefs on TV and in her younger days ride horses and dance. She was a member of the Mound Valley Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Women. She leaves behind a son Larry Hockett and wife Jane of Springfield, IL., five daughters Sandra Dyke, Thayer, Ks., Pat Hockett, of Olathe, Ks., Bonnie Wells and husband Maynard, Of Alamo, TX., Marie Addison and Husband Gary of Memphis, TN., and Diana Hockett, of Bartlesville, OK., one brother Dean Owens three sisters Lorene Brimm, Loretta Hoyle, and Veda Hockett, many nieces and nephews., eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her newborn son,Jerry Lee, her daughter, Debra Rapson, a grandson, Nathan Forrest, three brothers Calvin, Cecil, and Bud Roberts and two sisters, Mary Mangan and Ona Jewel Owens. Service and Visitation will be held on January 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. till service time which will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Mound Valley Methodist Church under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Independence, Kansas. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Mound Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Mound Valley Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Hospice, 3106 Main, Parsons, Kansas 6735[1]
