Biography

Joanna (Owen) Kerby was a Virginia colonist.

Name: Joanna Owens. ^{[1] [2]} Note: Descendants of some of Joanna's siblings retained the original Owen spelling of the surname while others adopted the Owens spelling. Joanna's father used the Owens spelling every time he referred to himself or his children in his will. People of Welsh descent frequently added an 's' to the end of a surname to indicate that it was no longer a patronymic.

Birth: on January 3, 1713 (unproven date) in Henrico County, Virginia^[1][2]No original document can be found to confirm Joanna's date of birth and the sources cited above are unreliable--at best--and it appears that one copied from the other (see comments in Sources below). There is some dispute over Joanna's place of birth - some duplicate profiles stated she was born in Pittsylvania, Virginia but Pittsylvania County did not exist when she was born and--in any event-- it was on the opposite side of the James River from where her parents lived in Henrico County. Other unsourced family trees mistakenly claim she was born in Prince George County but there is good documentary evidence that her parents lived in Henrico County and no evidence that they ever lived in Prince George County.
