Biography

Richard Owens was born about 1689 in St Mary’s Parish in Virginia’s Old Rappahannock County; the son of John Owens and Rebecca Haile. In 1792 Old Rappahannock County ceased to exist, and the land his family farmed became instead Richmond County and in 1720 King George County.

He married Mary Berry about 1724, in all probability in King George County. Their children: Joshua, Jeremiah, Mary, William, John, Sarah, Richard, Aaron and Lettie. [1] There are indications he subsequently married Mary Haile.

He wrote his will 22 Jan 1763 and it was in probate 02 Jun 1763. [2] He was about 74 years-old when he died.

This says his wife may have been Mary Berry, but it is not a confirmed positive statement.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Richard:
