Biography

Unestablished and Distinguishing Origins

  • After some vetting, this appears to be a false positive match:
US, Quaker Meeting Records, 1681-1935: Hannah Owen, Mother: Susanna Owen, Father: Robert Owen, Birth: Lancaster, Pennsylvania[1] Analysis of matching data suggest that Robert Owen (1695-1730) and Susannah Hudson (1699-1757) did marry and have a daughter coincidentally named Hannah Owen; however, that Hannah Owen lived 1720-1791 and her two spouses were John Ogden and Joseph Wharton (no Todd marriages occurred in that Owen family).[2] So this particular disputed origins hint falsely links Hannah to those parents.
  • The existing attached parents are marked as uncertain because no sources directly link them.

Maiden Name & Family of Consent

Records closest to secondary sources appear to establish her surname was properly Owen. See, e.g., Find A Grave: Memorial #8878175, which uses Owen, and the US, Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, 1889-1970[3] uses Owen. However, the marriage record lists her as Owens.[4] The marriage record as reported by FamilySearch "FHL" and other derivative sites appear to be the only entities that ascribe her surname as Owens. Lastly, another citation that is also attached on the FamilySearch profile for Hannah Owen, perhaps most significant in importance, this work by a family member only names her as Hannah Owen, and does describe the marriage as is shown in the next source, naming her as Hannah Owen, however.[5]

His (David Todd's) wife, whom he married in Pennsylvania, was Hannah Owen, of Welsh decent and a quakeress. They had four sons and two daughters, John, Robert, Levi, Owen, Elizabeth and Hannah.[6]

Having said that about the alternate parents, Robert Owen (1695-1730) and Susannah Hudson (1699-1757) did marry and have a daughter coincidentally named Hannah Owen; however, that Hannah Owen lived 1720-1791 and her two spouses were John Ogden and Joseph Wharton. So it appears that that disputed origins hint may be falsely linking Hannah to that pair.

If we have any leads from the Geni profile OR from the FamilySearch profile for identifying with any degree of certainty her parents, those should be pursued.

With the preponderance of the evidence, I think that Alice Beard (see below) is correct, and that the surname should be changed to Owen. It also looks like she may be attached to parents without any proofs (in fact, evidence has been provided that suggest an alternate pedigree).

Maiden name was OWEN, not OWENS.

Owen-1121 and Owens-765 appear to represent the same person because: Please merge. Thanks.
