Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Joseph Pace was a Virginia colonist.

Joseph was born in 1692 in Middlesex, Virginia, the son of John and Elizabeth Pace. He received the entirety of his father's land and plantation in John's 1720 will.[1][2] He married Ann Basford on 18 Apr 1721, the daughter of Richard Basford.[3][4][5]

From the Pace Society of America: "John Pace Sr. left the Home Place to his second eldest son, Joseph, (see will) because he was the oldest son still living at home, and since there were younger children to care for, and since John Pace Jr. was established he felt that Joseph would care for the remaining family. Joseph Pace marries Ann Basford a few months after his father's death. Five months after his marriage, his step mother, Mary (Murray) Pace remarries and Joseph Pace is now in possession of the total estate...Since Joseph Pace did not go to Goochland until about 1733, he and his wife Ann Basford Pace probably lived on the Home Place for 12 years or more...It appears that Joseph Pace went to Goochland County, Virginia and John Pace Jr. remained and died in Middlesex..."[6]
