Andrew was Cherokee.

Andrew Taylor Paden was born March 8, 1837 in the Cherokee Nation in Alabama, the son of Benjamin Paden, a white man, and Elmira Miller, a Cherokee. Andrew appears with his parents on the 1851/52 Siler and Chapman rolls living in DeKalb, Alabama. [1] The family emigrated to Indian Territory in 1857. He served in Captain Ephraim Adair's company in the Civil War. He married Martha Vickery, also Cherokee, on July 23, 1865. [2] They were the parents of six children, Cora, John, Zachariah, George, Robert, and Margaret. [3]

Andrew was elected a Sentator from Flint District, Cherokee Nation in 1895. [4] He died June 9, 1907 at Stilwell, OK and is buried at the Paden Cemetery there. [5]
