Julia Susan Paden was born on November 01, 1844 in DeKalb, Alabama, United States. Her parents were Benjamin Paden, a white man, and Elmira Margaret Miller, a Cherokee. The family had emigrated to Indian Territory before 1835, but later returned to Alabama where they appear on both the 1850 U.S. Census [1] and on the Siler and Chapman rolls of 1851/52. [2] Elmira appears on the 1880 Cherokee Census, Flint District, with the notation "Old Settler, readmitted 1857." [3] Susan married her cousin Sylvester Inlow there about 1860. They were the parents of Thomas, Laura, William, and Margaret. [4]
Sylvester died in 1878 and Susan married Edward Grant, a white man. [5] They were the parents of Donald and George. [6]
Susan died on February 13, 1889 in the Delaware District and is buried with Sylvester at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Delaware County, OK. [7]
